Treated with utter contempt by Big Motoring World in Canterbury. Avoid unless you enjoy having your time wasted. I have just returned from a 3 hour round trip to Big Motoring World. The way I was treated today and had my entire Sunday wasted is nothing short of disgusting. Having to leave even 1 star for this outfit sickens me. I phoned up about a car on a Friday and was told it had just become available. I was offered an appointment for 2 days later on the Sunday to come down for a test drive and viewing. At 11am on the Sunday I was phoned by someone in the office confirming the appointment. I said yes, I will be there at 3pm. I then received a text message at 12pm also confirming the appointment. I then set off at 1:30, battling through London traffic to make my appointment. I was not late but respectfully on time. If only that respect could have been reciprocated to me. Upon arrival I gave the appointment code to reception and was taken to a salesperson who asked "How can I help?" As I had already handed across a unique code for my appointment to see a specific car I found this superfluous but happily explained that I had come for my 3pm test drive on a particular car. He duly looked up the vehicle and said that his colleague currently has the key to it but "hopefully" the car is still available and that I should be able to get to see it in 20 minutes or so. I asked him what he meant by that, seeing as I had a specific appointment, one which had already been confirmed twice by their office only hours before. He went to explain that someone had waltzed in just 20 minutes ago and asked to see the car. Rather than explain to that person that they had a confirmed customer coming to see the car in 20 minutes time, they happily threw him the key and gave him first refusal. I asked why they did this when I had a confirmed appointment. Answer: because he was here first. Despite me making the appointment 2 days ago. I asked why they didn't explain to the other customer that someone is on their way to see it. Answer: because he was here first. I asked why do you bother confirming appointments the very same day, only to not bother honouring them. Answer: because he was here first – by 20 minutes. I asked them why did they not think to call me knowing that I was on my way, to check I was definitely coming. No answer. I was then told 5 minutes later that the other customer had duly bought the car and there was nothing else to be done. My sincere warning to anyone considering using this company is think very long and hard about how much you value your time. They will sign you up for an appointment which they have admitted means absolutely nothing if somebody walks in off the street 10 minutes before you. They won't give a damn how far you have travelled, how long it took, how much it has cost you. If they think they have a crack at selling a car you have agreed to come and see to someone else 20 minutes ahead of your appointment they will sell you out in a flash, making an utter mockery of their own system. Without a doubt, this is the worst customer experience I have ever come across in my life.

Bought a 09 reg BMW 320d In June from BM World Canterbury. Not going to bore you with all the details, in a nutshell, 6 year old automatic beemer 140k on the clock for just under £7000 cash. For “peace of mind” bought 12 month third party warranty on top of the 3 month BM World gives you as standard (contract and T&C will follow in the mail in a few weeks’ time). Salesman assured me all cars are checked presale, and I am fully covered by the warranty. What could go wrong, right? When the crankshaft pulley came off 4 weeks and 600 miles later, I was told on the phone, that “used cars do break down, It is not their problem”, nevertheless I should speak to the after-sales department. Many phone calls later I learned the following Things: 1. The warranty applies, as it’s not considered wear and tear, but I should pay upfront to the garage that fixing it, then claim back the money upon receipt, minus the £100 excess, which is payable on every claim. Furthermore it only pays maximum £1000 per claim, and the total of all claims per car cannot exceed the value of the car (quite an issue when you get a used BMW with engine troubles). 2. BM World unable to help or assist with recovering the car, no courtesy car offered. 3. It takes 3 signed-for letters, two emails, some time on the phone and a visit in person to get an official answer out of them 9 weeks after first contact. 4. They don’t consider consumer law to apply (Sale of Goods act 1979), and simply state that the issue was not there when they sold the car (even thou they offer no proof of that). “I was aware of age and mileage at the time of sale” they wrote.(yet it isn't wear and tare??) 5. Office of fair trading will only tell you that you can take it to court if you want, but will not do much else for you. 6. Within 6 weeks of sale had to replace 2 unevenly worn tires, so do check even if the car has a fresh MOT on it.(I did not claim for those, however it was missed at presale checks and MOT?) 7. They won't pay for any costs, not even the £100 excess.Together with car hire, travel costs to collect the car and the tires, I'm out of £750. After some "negotiations" on the phone, they agreed to pay for the repair, and claim it back on the warranty themselves, but it isn't clear to me if it actually happened. On a personal note: BMW’s n47 engines have lots of problems I was unaware of until recently, do your research before buying one from any trader.

Big Motoring World were ok, they had the car I was looking for at the right price but it was very much an in and out transaction, very little in the way of customer service, no sit down or cup of coffee or anything like that. The car itself is running well and hasn't let me down yet.

Big Motoring World were quite good, I had to take it back almost right away with a fault but the just booked it in and got it fixed, even gave me a courtesy car in the meantime, since then the car has been fine and I've got no complaints about about the dealership or the service.

After 3 days the car went into limp mode, when I called up Big Motoring World they told me they wouldn't fix it unless I brought it to them and with the car in the state it was in and the length of the journey it would take this was not a viable option, I kept calling them trying to negotiate and alternative and they kept telling me to call back the next day then the next day and so on. I had a work trip coming up and ended up driving the car as I had no other choice, risking further damage to the car. They were just so poor in resolving the problem. Eventually I spoke to a different bloke from the workshop who was much more helpful and the problem did get sorted but I was shocked at how dismal the after sales care was from some of their staff, especially after only having the car 3 days.

A rating of 1 is far to high for this car dealership. I had read lots of bad reviews but felt I would stay optimistic, keeping open mind and go to Big Motoring World in Canterbury to make my own assumptions as there was a BMW 3 series I was interested in. The price was £8000 and it had done around 80000 miles. On arrival they'd forgotten I was test driving the car and didn't know which one it was so. When starting it it was empty on fuel so we had to wait while it was re fuelled. I had a good look around it and realised there was a lot of paint damage and the whole break system was rusted and corroded and needed replacing. We started our test drive and half a mile down the road began to lose power. A warning light was displaying and I said to the salesman you've either got a turbo on its way out or there's a problem with the fuel injectors because the power was so intermittent we were jolting all over the place. I also realised the the fuel gauge was still not registering since the Car had been filled up. So within the space of about half an hour I had found poor bodywork, an unsafe break system, a faulty fuel gauge and a mechanical fault causing the car to lose power. What kind of checks must they do before putting the cars on the forecourt? Obviously none as I managed to find out these faults from a quick test drive. The car is unfit for sale and unsafe as well and yet after dropping it back to the sales centre, I drove past half an hour later to see it back on the forecourt for sale. DON'T GO ANYWHERE NEAR THIS CAR SALES CENTRE THEY ARE IN MY OPINION SELLING DANGEROUS CARS AT HIGH PRICES WITH HIGH MILEAGE. I will be reporting Big Motoring World in Canterbury.
