No support with issue

A business is only a good one when they can show resolution when a genuine problem occurs and unfortunately that hasn’t happened here. Less than four months after purchase, a front coil spring failed while driving (no potholes were hit). While investigating the repair, an independent RAC mechanic found that the front shock absorber was also leaking oil. What concerned me most was that this was the same shock absorber that had been highlighted during the pre-sale MOT. At the time of purchase, I was given written confirmation from the garage stating that the shock was "almost new" and that the MOT advisory for light misting was simply due to road spray. However, after inspecting the vehicle, the independent RAC mechanic wrote: "doesn't look new at all.". A shock absorbed doesn’t go from ‘almost new’ to ‘doesn’t look new at all’ in a few months. Despite being informed of this, Tower Hill Garage declined any responsibility, stating that the shock absorber failure was consequential damage caused by the broken spring, even though they did not physically inspect the vehicle themselves or offer to do so, repeatedly stating it was wear and tear and our own issue to fix even when explaining the contradictory information we had been given by them and the RAC report. I fully accept that an 11-year-old car will require maintenance and that components can fail. My disappointment isn't that a repair was needed, it's that there appeared to be no willingness to investigate the contradictory evidence or stand behind the written assessment provided when the vehicle was sold. Based on my experience, I'd strongly recommend against buying a car from them.
