Had very poor service on 3 occasions at Specialist Cars York, 2 relating to work on my car and 1 when looking to buy a vehicle. Some of their 5 star Google reviews are fictitious too.

As many will know who regularly visit our dealership and have done over the last 25+ years (yes we have been here over quarter of a century now.. time fly's!, and the early 1990`s and all that came with it seems like yesterday) or find out when they do if they are new to our company, we have some very nice workshops, and super facilities all at hand, however although regularly asked DON’T offer a repair service to customer`s for their own cars, and car`s they have bought elsewhere, we are a sales business, we carry out work to these car`s in question, so this reviewer will not have brought his car to us a 1st time to have repairs carried out, nor a second time. Even if we offered such a repair service, why would he keep coming and then consider buying from a garage he was not happy with?.
As many people who are in the repair side of the classic car industry will no doubt agree, in many cases (not all), but in many a repair involves re doing previous work another tradesman or good intention private hobbyist has done poorly, in most cases depending on the level or correction required as a garage owner you then have to deliver bad/terrible news to the owner, normally a nice enthusiast who will have generally been unaware so not a great area of the job and a not one we wish to do, hence as above we DON’T offer a repair service to customer`s for their own cars, and car`s they have bought elsewhere,

Would not touch anything that is related to Specialist Cars York. The owner is unprofessional and definitely not a trustworthy dealer, be careful. Plenty of good dealers in the area but one to avoid. Take mechanics with you!

Greetings Mr Miles A!, not sure who you are, we have no record of any recent transaction or in fact any such enquiry or visit by a “Miles A”, from the detailed in house showroom log system we operate which logs all sales activity at our dealership…
As all who deal with us and also visit will find and as many have already over the 26 yrs+ in business… we are far from unprofessional…. certainty trustworthy, and as any mechanic who have been will confirm……… we sell very nice cars indeed!, it may be the case you also sell classic cars like us?, hence this review!

I’ve found Kristian to be nothing but a gentleman, very helpful and knowledgeable and what he offers as a warranty cover and the rest best of look doing better from any other company, it’s sad to see people tarnishing his name in reviews when cars can give problems and even new cars off the factory line can be faulty and give problems, lots of manufacturers have recalled cars because of faults, I’m waiting on a classic at the moment and I know I can trust Kristian and will do business again and again in the future, his company has some beautiful cars, bikes, etc,
I would think the bad reviews and watch dog post and the rest is so unfair and these people who have put up these unfair and horrible reviews should be ashamed of themselves trying to damage a mans business when their problems were resolved, I know my cars and know some cars can just give problems, I would recommend Specialistcars to family and friends, anyone, I have a good friend at the moment looking at a car Kristian has and I think my friend will purchase from him, absolutely beautiful examples of all motors, to anyone reading these reviews do not believe these nasty reviews, really spiteful and nasty people do things like this, the world isn’t perfect and things can go wrong, just because you’ve had a bad day doesn’t make it right to write angry nasty reviews, what’s the saying “ if you’ve nothing good to say say nothing “

Kristian the owner of Specialist Cars is extremely affable, knowledgable and genuinely wants to pair his customer with the correct vehicle. After giving a brief on which Mercedes W123 I was interested in, Kristian sourced a true classic.
His knowledge and expertise is honourable. I am exteremly happy with the vehicle which was delivered to London as part of the service. the after sales care is also great as Specialist Cars can source all the parts needed.
I can highly recommend this outfit if your looking for something reliable and interesting. 5 Stars.

Communicated over several months with Kristian at Specialist Cars York re our search for a very particular Mercedes W124 & had a great, enthusiast, informative experience on each occasion. Ultimately our perfect Japanese Import 280E (& yes they are every bit as good as Kristian says) came to us via a private seller. Nonetheless, the response when I called to advise "search over" was one of congratulations & interest. Will be staying in touch for parts purchases & W124 resources as Kristian clearly knows his stuff & then some on these cars! Thanks again for the excellent advice & help, which thus far hasn't cost us a penny!!

Bought the car from Specialist Cars York, transferred cash, the vehicle was not as described, not of merchantable quality or fit for purpose. Vehicle later inspected by independent company. faults found and rectified accordingly.
In questioning the owner whom I know to be Kristian, very good with the sales patter and very personable, but I found to be untrustworthy and argumentative in relation to questions about the vehicles condition. To future potential buyers remember the latin "caveat emptor" or "let the buyer beware". If you persist with hard questioning(Which you should not need to do) you will get your money back, like I have noticed fellow reviewers have done.
Do your homework about the company and particularly before making cash transfers.
Went on holiday and had no end of problems with the vehicle, which ruined my wifes holiday as the vehicle developed a cooling system fault, which led to us curtailing our vacation. My wife was very upset so I contacted Mr G about the problems with the vehicle and instead of being helpful, as he should be since I am the customer, found him instead to be resistant to having repairs done on the vehicle at my own expense and then having to argue with Mr G later on to get compensation for repairs (I am a fully qualified Motor Vehicle Technician) made to my vehicle bought from Mr G.
I eventually was compensated by Mr Geldard, but having gone through this experience I would never buy or recommend this company to my friends or family which is a great shame. No customer should ever have to have protracted dealings with a seller, the sale of the vehicle was smooth enough, however after-sales customer service was very poor indeed.
BBC Watchdog and Rogue Traders, Trading Standards should investigate the dealings and complaints from the buyers who have dealt with this company.
Enough said!

As well as selling cars, which for the avoidance of any doubt are high quality as anyone with experience of us will be familiar with and is welcome to confirm in person at our facilities here, the cars we sell come with a detailed warranty cover, and in addition 2 full years and 24,000 miles after sales service and maintenance plan, with labour at £39.00 per hour if required, unlimited free technical advice from people who know the makes and models they sell intimately, and more importantly parts at cost which can be dispatched in many cases within 24 hrs to most UK destinations, or if overseas a little while longer.
This package has been very specifically designed so that we can protect our customers from been over charged for work or led down the wrong path in relation to a required action, costs, and parts involved in rectifying a fault that may develop (this can and does cause friction with some repairers and too rightly so as their customer then becomes quickly educated in what is involved and the cost they should expect to pay, not what they were been told was involved and about to pay before contacting us pre repair!)
Regardless of this been on tap, based on his “very special long term relationship” with his chosen repairer, this particular customer in question here seemed to be blinded by what his repairing garage told him, regardless of the actual condition of a vehicle, time taken to repair a simple fault and costs and easy availability of any parts required. When you are dealing with a customer that a) won`t let you assist with a repair, b) won`t listen to factual, correct information relating to a repair c) even research a repair procedure, or parts costs himself, or d) at least even get a second opinion after advising him, they are difficult to help, he sadly only has himself to blame if he gets over charged and pays to have work carried out that does not need doing, he without doubt should look a little closer to home, and practice what he preaches above "caveat emptor" or "let the buyer beware".
Miles aweigh in response to Dreadful, should not be in business.
We have already made complaints about Kristian and his ways to Trading Standards, they are fully aware but the more people who complain the better!
