I purchased a mini cooper 1.6 petrol 2010 car from Affordable Cars (Driffield) Ltd along with one year’s warranty; below is the recorded events of the service I received from this business. 26th March – We view car and paid £50.00 refundable deposit on condition the wheels were done as they were very tatty and agreed that we could collect on the 9th April allowing plenty of time for preparation. 28th March – emailed sales to ask about the V5 number to sort the road tax, advised it’s was ok that ‘don’t worry about the tax we tax the cars on site before you leave’ 6th April – car should have been available to collect; it wasn’t as it failed its MOT so I still made the journey to Driffield on the bus to sort out the finance and I was given a different car to use as I had cancelled my insurance to move over and sold my previous car. I will say up to this point the service was fine and perfectly acceptable. 9th April – Told the car was on its way and would be with me at 4pm; it wasn’t and I got a call at 4.25pm to say the tracking needs doing and it would now be tomorrow the 10th April. 10th April – Told the car has set off and was on its way and would be with me at 4pm; I got a call at 5.45pm to say it wasn’t because it couldn’t be taxed because the Paperwork was wrong and they had no V5 with the current vehicle registration on it. 10th April text my bank details for my refundable deposit to be returned after enquiring again about how I got it back – received no response. 16th April – Vehicle taxed but not delivered again because apparently they had noticed the wheels were rough (see 26th March!!) and the wheels were still wet. 17th April – Car finally arrives, I enquire about when I will receive my deposit to be told it had been used to tax the vehicle; there had been no previous discussion other than the email I received on the 28th stating ‘We tax the car’ and no response to my requested regarding my deposit. The wheels were painted while still on the car, over the bolts and all with spray on the tyres when my husband went to take them off he physically moved the car forward; had these been left and the wheels needed to be removed for a puncture they would not have been able to get the wheel off I could have been left in a very dangerous situation. The wheels were so disappointing and naff we have purchased some alloys for it the originals are worth lass now in the defaced state than the original chipped condition. And no spare key was provided even though it was the first line of the advert (I have a screen shot as I sent it to my husband) The car arrived with scratches on the roof please see pictures below which weren’t there when we viewed it along with a chip in the windscreen, this car allegedly has passed a MOT with two different rated tyres on the front and back which should have be an automatic fail. When He called after I emailed with my concerns and disappointment at the whole experience I was shouted at down the phone and told they would cancel the road tax and I could go arrange it myself (which I can’t because I have no paperwork what so ever) and give me my refund… ‘Is that what I want? Is it? Is that what you want?’ 25th April I purchased the warranty and to date I am still awaiting the paperwork for that and the second spare key that the car was advertised with. I have Emailed but had no response. 26th April I received a call from Adrian, he asked what I wanted to put this right and I advised that I would like to be paid £50.00 to replace the key as it was false advertising and not brought to my attention that it was incorrect until the car was delivered and it was t late to withdraw from the deal. 28th April after not hearing anything from the after sales manager I rang again for an update he said he would speak with the Director that morning and get back to me. 29th April I had to ring again as he had not gotten back to me to be told that I need to email Mr T with everything I have already discussed several time 30th April I email Mr T the contents of this review. 30th April Mr T replied to my email suggesting I owe £28 the difference from my deposit and road tax that they used without my authority, this is astounding and a clear indication of the appalling service received.

Tracey Rich-Pitman in response to AVOID Terrible service

Update - i purchased this car on the 6th April and now after spending another £20 i am still waiting for my V5 and under the instruction of DVLA have had to remind Affordable Cars it is their legal responsibility to inform DVLA of change of ownership on vehicles.

During the buying process the staff were very helpful and friendly. Agreed to put car through service and replace a Panel, as missing a piece, before collecting car which I paid £5000 so not the cheapest car. When I collected the car the Panel had not been changed but was told a new one has been ordered but waiting for it to arrive so agreed they would send it in post when arrived. Also the aerial was missing so told they would order new one and send me that. The service book had not been stamped with the agreed service so was told they would get it stamped and send me the book. 2 months on and still no arrivals. Rang company and was told they will order the parts and send them and get book stamped. Said it was a mis-communication with their sales team even though on arrival was told these had been ordered. 2 weeks later still no news so had to drive 2 hours to dealership to collect service book and on arrival received stamped book but still no aerial or panel. A month on rang again for at least 5th time and was told everything had arrived and would send me it. The aerial I received was battered, bent and was just in a terrible state so no way was this new as told. The panel was scratched to bits and was the wrong panel all together. I put car through another service as had worries and all filters were completely blocked and needed replacing and was told by garage that there was no way this car had been serviced properly a few months ago. The company have no care once you have bought the car.

I have had similar issues with Affordable cars Driffield, unfortunately i did read the reviews in here but they must have waiting to have been updated because i would never have continued with the sale had i seen these. My review should be posted soon hopefully, it might save someone else from disappointment.

I popped in to affordable cars to buy an Audi A1. I decided to take it out on finance but half way through the finance I spotted they had an Audi TT in the garage which I hadn’t seen. Danny spent ages sorting my finance and was not annoyed in the slightest when I asked if I could change my mind. He even got it cleaned and let me drive it home that same day. I can not understand where some of these negative reviews come from. On having the car 3 days i couldn’t remember how certain things worked as I’ve never had a car like this, I drove it back to the garage and nick sat in the car with me and went through all the controls again. Great locally run garage.

When I first spoke to Addordable cars the review I received for the car I was looking at buying was described as “MINT”. This has fallen a long way short of my perception of MINT!!. 3 weeks after my purchase I’ve had numerous on going issues to which their reply is “see how it goes in the next couple of days”. Within the first week I reported several issues that the clutch cuts out, a number plate which had fallen off “oh we stick these on now with double sided tape, a number of garages do this” (2 screws ain’t going to break the bank), a car with one key, a service book that isn’t up to date, by the way I still haven’t received this back as they said they would up date it and send it to me in the post (3weeks later I still haven’t received this) I’ve now discovered a leak in the windscreen just this week after heavy rain and now they won’t answer my calls or reply to my voicemails. If you are seriously thinking of buying a used car then go elsewhere, because if this is their level of service then I find it paramount I leave this review.

I am always sceptical when purchasing a car from an unknown source. But bought a car from these guys and can honestly say that it was a pleasure dealing with them. Nick the salesman was always willing to talk and everything the promised was done to the vehicle. Will definitely be using and recommending them in the future 5 stars doesn't do them justice

Purchased an 04 plate Freelander 4 weeks ago (beginning March). Was told car would be serviced and MOTd and when I asked what the "service" included I was told that a 30-point check and road test would be carried out. This re-assured me as I had pointed out that the brakes were not working as well as they should be during the test drive. I also pointed out that the MOT had been done in January, but was told that they always sell car with 12m MOT, so naturally expected it to be done again in March. Also there was an issue with the door mirrors not working, which was agreed would be put right. And I asked for the crankcase ventilation filter to be changed as part of the "service" I arranged to pick the car up the following week, but was contacted by the salesman a couple of days later to say that they need the car a couple more days to get it valeted etc, and they wouldn't be able to fix the mirrors after all, so agreed a £100 discount on the price, but told me the rest of the work had been done. Agreed to delay pick up by 2 days. On day I was due to collect the car, I received a phone call just as I was about to board the train to say that they needed to fit a new battery as the car had been slow at starting, so could I give them a further 4 hours. I agreed and collected the car, at which time it was noticed the Service Book had not been stamped. It was agreed that this would be sorted and posted out to me. Also, I pointed out the car had not been MOTd as promised, and was told it had been done in January and not covered any miles since then since it had been on their forecourt. I drove the car home, but noticed the brakes were no better, so I had become doubtful about the promises they had made and I thoroughly checked the car myself when I got home. The oil was black, and clearly had not been changed, as I had only driven the car 25 miles since it had supposedly been done. The air filter was filthy and not been touched for some time. The crankcase filter was choked with thick black tar, and had not been changed as agreed. The front brake caliper pins were seized, hence the brakes being poor. The tyres were overinflated at 39psi instead of 30psi. The spare only had 7psi (seven psi) in it! The brake fluid was overfilled to such an extent it was seeping out, and the rubber in the lid was crushed flat. The power steering fluid was also full to the brim. The "new" battery they fitted must have been put on another car, as the battery in my car was old, and died after 3 days - so I'm not sure what they were playing at there. So much for the Service, 30 point check and road test. Now, I have had plenty of experience of garages in the past, enough to take with a pinch of salt any promises they make and to be honest don't trust most of them to carry out the work they are supposed to (this includes some main dealerships) so as is usual when I buy any car I ended up completing the work myself, as at least then I know its done properly. The car is now running fine, and stops safely. Incidentally, 4 weeks on, and I have not yet received either the V5 or the Service Book - I was looking forward to seeing what they were claiming to have done on the service! So a word of advice is that unless you know how to work on a car yourself, don't assume it will have been done for you before you buy from this dealer.
