I bought an Audi A5 in December, and they claimed to have done an AA check and replaced the rear brakes. Months later, a tire shop found a stripped wheel bolt that had been cross-threaded and left unsafe. I’d unknowingly been driving a dangerous car for six months. When I asked them to cover the repair, they told me to drive the faulty car two hours back to them—completely ignoring safety advice from my local garage. Totally negligent and irresponsible. Hi Josh, Sorry to hear you had a issue with your Audi A5. As you state your brakes were changed before you collected by our fully qualified mechanic, who is also a mot tester. Standard procedure when replacing wheel studs that they tightened by hand then torqued to the correct settings. So any wheel stud would not of been cross threaded at the time of fitment and if we had found a faulty stud when taking the wheels off we would of changed it for a new one. You state a tyre (tire) shop, who use high pressure air guns found this issue, couldn't have they caused the issue when gunning the wheels back on. You also state that when you contacted us regarding your complaint, that a employee of car realm asked you to drive a unroadworthy vehicle back to us. This would not be the case, when buying a vehicle off us, we are a AA approved dealer. Vehicle comes with free breakdown cover and you would have been told that you can arrange the right cover, so the vehicle can be transported back to our premises at anytime I find that the 1 star rating is quite unfair, seeing that i do not believe we was at fault and we were still willing to look at the vehicle for you, 6 months after you purchased it. Thanks for your reply, but I strongly disagree with several of the claims you've made. While I agree that the procedure you've described should have been followed, it's clear that it wasn't in this case. Since purchasing the car, I hadn’t had the wheel removed until it went to Costco — a company with a well-established reputation for professionalism and strict safety standards. They showed me the stripped bolt before fitting the rim back. I know this as the original tire was still on the rim, which confirms they hadn’t touched it yet. So the damage clearly existed beforehand and was not caused by them. You also deny that your staff asked me to drive the car back to you, but that simply isn't true. I was explicitly told that if I wanted anything looked at, I would need to return the car to your dealership — a two-hour drive away. My local garage strongly advised against driving the vehicle in that condition due to safety concerns, but this was ignored by your team. So no, I don’t believe a one-star rating is unfair. What is unfair is being sold a car with a serious safety defect, being dismissed when I raised the issue, and having the responsibility shifted to others instead of owning the mistake. That’s not responsible customer service — that’s negligence. If you would like to reimburse me, I paid £220 to have the issue fixed.
