I spoke with a man named Kev regarding a car I was interested in. I live an hour away and asked if he’d be open so I could view it. He told me I was 2nd in line and would get back to me after someone else had viewed it. A day or so later, he told me the other person was a no show, I was highly interested in the car but due to the distance, getting time between the kids and running the business, and Kev closing up early, I found it very difficult to view it and worried it may get sold before I could get there. The days were getting on and I decided to just put a reserve down for the car, Kev told me once I’d paid, he’d take the advert down and the car would be mine. I paid knowing there was a warranty, and if there was anything wrong then I’d get my money back. The ad was never taken down and Kev seemed to make it very difficult for me to collect the car. Any day I’d managed to move clients round, arrange a lift up there, and childcare, he’d tell me he was closing early that day. I also asked if him collecting me from a nearby train station was an option but he said he’d have to close the shop? Yet any time I wanted to go up there to collect to car he was ‘closing early’ The last time I tried to arrange collection, I sent a WhatsApp asking if I could collect that afternoon as everything was in place, he asked if I could talk and we had a phone conversation. He told me there had been an accident in the yard and another vehicle had hit a trail of three cars, mine being the first in line. He said he was on the phone with insurance and suspected it would be a write off. I asked if he had a photo/video of the car/incident and he said he could get one once he’s done inside on the phone to insurance. I asked for a photo as frankly I didn’t believe him. He’d just made it so difficult for me to get this car, I never understood it. If personally go above and beyond if someone was buying an item of that value. He never sent any photo or video, and I asked again a few hours later/ the next day. He told me he was at the police station getting a crime reference number. I have since been told that you get these online/over the phone and not at a police station. The advert stayed up for a couple of weeks after, I noticed the car tax was not renewed once September had come. When I checked again a week or so later, the tax had been renewed for another year and a new logbook issued. This man wasted so much of my time and stressed me out unbelievably. Buying a car is so daunting and stressful as it is and he is the exact type of car salesman you do not want to encounter- a dishonest time waster! He knew I was selling my car within two weeks and was running out of time. I am a solo parent and rely on my car for the business and taking my kids to school- he knew everything and still messed me around
