During the break between lockdowns I bought a 2003 BMW from them. We had made an appointment to view the car a week earlier. A test drive was offered and as a result we left a deposit. A week later and travelling by train from Essex we were met at the nearest station and driven to their premises. The car met all my expectations but a month later the starter motor packed up. I phoned John Paul and asked if I could get the car repaired locally to me and to foward the Invoice to them. The invoice was paid promptly. Great car and great service. I must point out that the car was beyond the top end for price but was low owners, low mileage and full serice history, also immaculate.

DO NOT DO BUISNESS WITH THIS GARAGE, Awful customer service and owner was very rude. Selling cars which are supposedly checked by a mechanic (which are not) and do not want to help you if you have an issue with the £42k car you bought off of them 3 days later.

We bought a BMW from James Paul sight unseen from the other end of the country, 250 miles away.. They charged a hefty fee to deliver it which we swallowed as we were a long way away and the salesman said the driver would need to get the train back to Horsham. Fair enough. When the car was dropped off the delivery guy mentioned in passing that he was collecting another car from the next town, 20 miles away to drive back. More annoyingly, we had issues with the battery from day one which we were asked to “monitor, as the car hasn’t been used much” When we pointed out that this was nonsense we were promised a new battery. We rang repeatedly and were fobbed off until eventually we were told that it was a wear item and they wouldn’t cover it. So if you do see a car you really want at James Paul, expect it to be faulty and that you will be lied to. Or alternatively, go somewhere that stands by it’s cars.

I wish i'd had read this review site before my recent purchase from James Paul Cars at Bucks Green, nr Horsham, Sussex, With similar issues being experienced to an even higher degree. Working in the technology sector for the likes of Facebook and Microsoft in past years amongst others making some nice friends along the way, including Google may be its time for me to consider entering the world of social media as the modern tool. As i believe the costs to a business with its sales online would possibly be immeasurable, when compared against leaving just another one off unsatisfied customer who possibly has the ability to communicate wide and far with a single click. I may not have the same funds available as the likes of Mr Zuckerberg, but i almost certainly have the ability to circulate my experiences within the same realm....Refund requested would be a much much cheaper option, and satisfying result....
I bought a car from this dealer many years ago, and it turned out to be a bad experience, a double sunroof on a 520 Tourer failing on day one, and a botched fix thereafter. Fast forward 15 years I thought I’d give them another go (people can change) and popped in to view a Z4 for my son. We were ignored for twenty minutes while the salesman chatted and joked to a mate. When I eventually asked to see inside the car the salesman acted as if I’ve asked for a kidney. He eventually opened the door but left the steering lock on - making it difficult to sit in - before resuming his chat with his mate. Some fifteen minutes later, which we had spent sat on a wall in the baking sun clearly with some intent to discuss the car, he asked if we would like the roof opened. I said yes, and also asked for a test drive. He looked us up and down and told us straight to our face that test drives weren’t possible due to covid. I said nothing. He fumbled and mumbled, telling us that people were buying M3’s without even driving them and that it was the same all over the industry. Again I said nothing; preferring to wait and see if he was going to dig himself out of a hole or go deeper. He said it wasn’t really possible ... well, not without telling him how far down the road we were, ‘I mean, we’re happy for customers to drive a car if they’re going to buy it’. This time I did speak, to tell him I was in the trade (I deal in classic Porsche) and we had been giving test drives for months. I didn’t tell him that I had purchased a valuable one owner, low miles Z3M Coupe only three days prior to this from Four Star Classics, who were more than happy for me to test drive the car before stumping up my hard earned, and that I had the full asking price of the Z4 in my pocket. I thanked him for his time and left. We drove on to another dealer and bought a Boxster.

Recently had my BMW Serviced and had a report done on the Engine Oil, it appears the Oil James Paul fitted when I purchased the Car had the incorrect Viscosity Oil fitted. Also had to argue to get Diff and Gearbox Oil changed at time of purchase which they said didn’t need replacing, this BMW confirmed should have been done. Now not confident they actually changed the Oils after finding out about Engine Oil being incorrect!
I bought a car from here which I soon noticed had a worrying engine noise. I had my concerns confirmed by an independent dealer and took the car back to James Paul to see if they would be prepared to help me as I'd only bought the car of them two weeks earlier. To my amazement they weren't prepared to do anything and pretended they couldn't hear the very clear knocking noise that was very clear and had also been verified as an engine fault by another independent BMW dealer. I'm sure that if the car you buy is OK all will be well but beware that if you have a problem with it after buying it they won't help. I've looked through other reviews and can see a trend.

I found James Paul to a very good dealership. The dealer was really helpful and friendly and made the process quick and easy. The car was in immaculate condition and I have had no issues with it at all. I purchased in in January. I would definitely recommend James Paul.
