Be Careful of this Dealer!! I chose this dealer against others because of the great feedback I found and initially found the family run business to be trust worthy. However upon delivery of my car I discovered the modified exhaust fitted to the car was too loud and borderline illegal! I contacted Peter Scott Cars, but was told the exhaust was what I supposedly agreed to when I signed to say the car was okay upon delivery. I asked for the car to be returned, but would of resulted in loss to me as my part exchange would need to returned back to me and thus showing another registered keeper on my car and devaluing it. The dealer also advised I would have to pay an excess mileage charge of £5 per mile should I decide to return the car and seeing as I live 250 miles away from the dealer it would of been a lot of money to make the return! I then discovered a few weeks later the car had corrosion on both front wings and again told I signed for this upon delivery. Be wary of this when purchasing a car from Peter Scott Cars as they may seem good on the surface, but when you have any issues after the point of sale they won't be willing to even compromise with you.

Rob is a great guy , friendly and helpful. However I bought the car under distance selling rights. At first the car was great . I bought a new rubber mat for it £50 , seat belt clips and filled it with fuel. However within 7 days and covering less than 50 miles on start up the car belched out plumes of black smoke and smelt of burning. I was horrified as the car had been supplied with a garage conducted AA inspection. I rang Rob about returning the car and I said I could drive it back as I knew it was my responsibility to return it under the regulations however I was concerned that more damage might be done to the engine. I also had £50 worth of petrol in the car. Rob said that under the circumstances he would pick it up . He said he would give me a full refund once they had checked that I had not removed any parts from the car . As if ! When it came to my refund they deducted the cost of mileage from my house to the garage two ways even though they actually collected it from Lidl , which is much closer. A transporter would not be able to negotiate our narrow lane. I have tried reasoning with the garage owner. Rob was clear I would get a full refund and I accept deductions for one way but I was happy to drive it back on the understanding that if it caused any damage I would not be responsible so Rob said no it’s ok they will collect instead. I drove it to Lidl with all the windows open due to the fumes coming off the engine .mThe pick up driver smelt the fumes and said it’s because they have to put so many things on the engines to get it through the emissions test that it knackers the engine . When the car got back to the garage they confirmed that no parts had been removed so expected a full refund minus the mileage costs one way. They said that their mechanic had found no problems with the engine so I had to pay both ways which wasn’t agreed at all. I could have driven it back with my full tank of fuel. From that point my emails were ignored. I have asked to use an alternative dispute resolution but they are not members of any!. It has cost me £246 plus the bits I ordered for the car for one weeks use of a car which lasted for 54.2 miles before having a blow out! I was told I would receive a further AA report on the car proving it was ok. . Needless to say that never showed up and in any case was irrelevant to the arrangements made for pickup. If the car hadn’t been smoking black I would still own it . So Beware ! 14 day return sounds like a nice safety blanket when buying a used car but it depends on the integrity of the garage . I’m just glad it developed a major problem with 7 days or I’d have a major headache and repair bill . Purchasers of cars from this garage are offered a draw to win a box of wine for their reviews . So the good reviews on here are probably suspect. I bet I don’t win the wine …..

Right listen carefully, make sure you check every bit of paperwork before handing over any money, was told this had extensive history and paper work including the original order form to prove the JCW parts where factory/dealer fit and not just bolted on at a later date, well guess what I still don't have the original order paperwork as promised on multiple occasions, the list of issues are listed below, I was told the AA where coming in on the 20/02/23 to do the inspection i now know this to be a lie, they came in on the 10/11/22 to do the inspection which it failed on, the following week I was told on the phone that the AA had signed off the car i now know this to be not true, it looks like none of the jobs listed on the AA report have been done. The list of jobs are as follows 1, low engine oil 2, multiple oil leaks which it still has 3, Discs and pads in poor condition need replacing ( i have done at my expense) 4, Rear left tyre damage on outer shoulder 5, airbag light (seems to be rectified). 6, Bulb warning light, still on when delivered and rear light inoprative.(major MOT Fail)(now fixed at my expense) 7, Rattle on cold start ( suspect chain) 8, heavy corrosion on front subframe ( how did it not even get an advisary on the mot for this) 9, offside inner drive shaft leaking Found after delivery 10, rear seat locks missing (major MOT fail) 11, Blow on exhaust (major mot fail) 12 Air filter housing and pipe work insucure 13, both front and rear bumpers insucure ( at least an mot advisary) 14, front and rear brake pad wear indicators removed and cable tied up 15, only 1 key when advert clearly states 2 16, extensive service history with books, no books and recipts for just 3 services in it 15 year life. 17, No AA pass certificate. Be very careful and check and recheck before handing over any cash

Peter Scott Cars from Peter Scott Cars in response to Don’t purchase from here

We are sorry you are unhappy with your 2007 Mini and the service we have provided. We have discussed these matters with you but I feel I must correct the inaccuracies in your comments. All our vehicles are inspected by The AA, an AA engineer completing a 128 point inspection report prior to sale. This also applied to your car, even though it was over 16 years old, it still underwent this inspection procedure and test drive by an AA engineer. Due to the rigorous nature of this inspection not surprisingly your 16yr old 84,000mile Mini failed. Once inspected all ‘failed’ items were attended to before your collection of the car. Your descriptions of these AA ‘fails’ is incorrect. The list of fails and works completed to repair is as follows: 1.Engine oil leak------Repair------ Replaced Rocker Cover Gasket 2.Offside inner driveshaft seal leaking------Repair------ Replaced driveshaft boot securing ring. 3.Both front brake backing plates corroded------Repair------Remove front brakes and removed damaged backing plate. 4.Rear left tyre nail in shoulder------Repair------Remove nail (no pressure loss, car is fitted with full set of matching Pirelli runflat tyres) 5.Air bag warning lamp & bulb warning lamp on------Repair------Scan and reset airbag system. 6.Rattle from heat shield------Repair----- Replace missing heat shield bolt. We have discussed all these AA fails and subsequent repairs with you and you are fully aware that they have been attended to prior to your collection. Your Mini also underwent an independent Ministry of Transport MOT inspection prior to collection passing with NO Advisories. (Advisories being test items that have passed but are perhaps borderline pass and may require attention before the end of the 12-month test period) despite your cars age it had no such advisory. The handbooks, although not present at the time of collection were, as agreed, supplied to you. Personally delivered by a member of staff who travelled to your home to handover to yourself in person. Despite numerous requests by ourselves to return the car so that any concern can be investigated and if necessary, remedied you have failed to do so, which is even more surprising as the car was still under our extensive parts and labour warranty. We would also add that we offered a full refund if you were not entirely happy. During the sale you asked us to purchase a 2021 Nissan X trail you had just inherited from a deceased relative. You did not have insurance or road tax for the car, so you asked us to view and then collect from your home which we did. This was a considerably more expensive car at over £20,000 than the 2007 Mini you purchased. We as a business have overheads in relation to wages, business rates, advertising etc and what is sometimes overlooked VAT even though used cars are zero rated as a dealer we still must account for and pay VAT. So it would be entirely wrong to believe that we have ‘profited’ from your loss with the sale of your relatives Nissan. You had asked other buyers for a price, and I am sure that you sold to ourselves as we were the highest offer you received. This is an entirely separate issue to the purchase of your Mini which was described, prepared and inspected correctly prior to sale and all aftersales services afforded to you.

I found the staff at Peter Scotts very helpful throughout the whole sales process, friendly advice and no hard sell! The car was delivered to us (200+ miles away) for a test drive after paying just £100 refundable deposit, that shows faith in the quality of their cars. It is early days but I am very pleased with the car and the smooth transaction.

I was very impressed by the professional attitude of the staff especially Ingrid who not only arranged for our test drive she then delivered the vehicle to my home. I enquired about a shelf for the vehicle which did come without a shelf when i first viewed it, Ingrid went out her way to get a shelf and also added mats as well. I will be retuning to Peter scott cars for next vehicle.
