So I bought a car off Philip last month and it broke down last friday.I spent most of saturday trying to get through to the landline and mobile but he did promise to lift the car on monday which he did and it was returned today and seems to be driving well. I hope there are no further issues with the car but I cannot fault how reliable they were in collecting and returning the car repaired. Fingers crossed we have no further issues.

I bought a car from here about a month ago (July 2023) initially I was pleased with the car a 2014 Nissan Qashqai. As part of the deal I insisted on. a years warranty with the car and this was provided. Any problems just bring it back and we will sort it out Stephen told me as I left. Before too long problems began I noticed the parking sensors weren't working, then the start stop auto function began playing up, an amber warning light showed up on the dashboard indicating a fault with the braking system. Then on Monday last it would not start steering was locked and key would not turn in the ignition. As the car was parked outside my house getting someone to come and check it became a problem it turned out that the basic warranty I had with warranty solutions through the dealer would not cover this. Stephen was totally unhelpful and stopped taking or returning my calls in the end I had to make a payment of £105 to Green flag to have the car checked, the problem was the ignition barrel which needs replaced and it is now with car servicing in Newtownabbey awaiting a part that Stephen has refused to order in. The last time we spoke on the phone he said f. k you I am not dealing with you anymore and has bailed on me. So I have a car with a worthless warranty needing expensive repairs that I will have to pay for myself. This is Phillip Mcgarrity motors a bunch of useless cowboys. Stay well away from them.

Wasn’t for putting this on my Facebook but seems they have turned reviews off on their Facebook page I wonder why 🧐🧐 this is the review I added to Google STAY AWAY!!!! My partner and I were sold a car that was meant to have had a full service done…4 months later the car broke down on the motorway with an engine fault…when looked at by insurance it was proven that when we bought the car it wasn’t road safe…we then contacted Philip numerous times to be told a different story every time not one member of staff knew what the other members of staff were saying and contradicted each other…then to be told that even if it was their fault the only refund they give on any car is £350 but they refused for us to get it delivered to them to have a look for themselves…. They then decided to tell us that they are no longer Philip mcgarritys and someone new has bought it over but when called from a different number bar my partners they called themselves Philip mcgarritys… we were taking this further with a legal team however due to a house fire we needed quick cash so had to have it scraped and definitely didn’t need the extra stress…. Conman wouldn’t even begin to describe the “business” https://www.facebook.com/philipmcgarrityusedcars/

So I refused to pay for work done to my car on the basis that Phil admitted it should have been done before I got the car 5 months ago (when he told me new brakes were put in) and even stated that it was physically impossible for that much wear and tear to happen in that time. After a brief dispute, Phil decided to block my car in nearly hitting me in the process. A financed car can't be retained as a result of non payment, he would know that so I don't know what he was thinking. My partner confronted him about nearly hitting me and Phil went charging at him and our 2 year old son who was in his dad's arms at the time. My partner had to push him to keep him away from our son. Phil the disappeared in to his office leaving us there so we asked is someone could move the van parked behind me so I could get out and they moved it. Phil saw this and CAME RACING ROUND IN HIS CAR HITTING A GUY WHO WAS IN HIS WAY!!! Regardless of the dispute Phils behaviour was psychotic! I've never seen anybody act so bizarrely!

"ACTING AS PRIVATE SELLERS"

Stephen from McGarrritys is acting as a private seller when in fact he is a car dealer himself. He recently sold my son a car via gumtree with a phone number listed on McGarritys website. The car had a faulty head gasket diagnosed after 3 days .When asked to refund Stephen refused stating it was a private sale although his name ( Stephen ) didnt feature on the logbook. Now reported to the PSNI and small claims.

If i could give this zero stars I would. Awful customer service Had a (supposedly) private conversation with stephen last week looking for advice on trade ins etc. Stephen then went on to tell tales about my visit to my own car dealer who sold me my current car, telling him everything we spoke about which is so unprofessional and completely wrong! Then when I rang to confront him about it baring in mind I wasnt cheeky at all the owner of the dealership answered PHILLIP MCGARRITY and screamed down the phone at me and called me a fucking twat.... what a lovely way to speak to a heavily pregnant woman & lovely customer service from a business owner isn't it !!!!! Disgusting! I would never step foot in this place again who do they think they are! going bye the reviews neither should anyone else dont know how they are still in business! Hopefully not for much longer treating customers the way they do. AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!!!!!!

We bought the car on 30/06/2020... First problem occured on the drive home from Belfast to Derry ..there was a crunching noise when we did a full right turn .. We called Stephen who sold us the car and told him if the problem and car was booked in to be sorted... Less than a week later the parking brake started to play up and it came up on dash board that it was faulty ..again we called Stephen to report ...once again the car was booked in to be sorted .... When hubby picked up the car we were told problem was sorted and that we were driving the car wrong and we confused the handbrake by using it. Silly us didn't realize the handbrake button was just for show.! ...we picked the car up on Monday 24 July and less than 5 days later parking brake fault occurred again ... We called Stephen and he told us he would again book in car and that I could still drive the car .. I am a registered Childcare provider caring for 6 children ..I did not feel it was safe to use to car for my job which was the reason I bought it plus the warranty quoted not to drive the car if there was a fault ..I bought the car for work purposes I wanted a realible 7 seater with low mileage ..the car was booked in again mean while another warning light came on telling me the abs braking system was faulty and the anti slip light keeping coming on and going off ... We were told it was parking motor and then it wasn't, then told it was the switch .. we again were told the car was fixed ... When hubby picked up car he was told not to use the parking brake manually at all as it wasn't a car that you should use with a manual brake we should just use the automatic brake which mean I had to turn off car if I wanted to apply brake ... We told them we weren't happy with this as why was there a button there if we couldn't use and Philip (owner) agreed we should be able to use it .. the handbook talked about how to apply the manual hand brake yet we were being told not to use ... Philip told us he would order a manual switch and sort for us to get fixed in Derry as trips up to Belfast weekly and time off work for hubby was taking its toll on us emotionally and financially .I was feeling very stressed out with the car and worrying how I would be able to do my job without a car as children are doing back to school and I needed my car for school pickups ... The switch Philip ordered arrived on Saturday 22 august by post and we were set to get it booked in with someone he recommended in Derry but when I started the car on Monday 24th to take a child to school ...it said that the abs breaking system was faulty the gearbox is faulty and the parking brake is faulty then the gears wouldn't change automatically ... I have had this car around 8 weeks ... I have not drove it for 1 full week without faults and warning lights coming up .. Most of the miles I have done in this car have been up and down to Belfast to let Philip get the car fixed for us which has been unsuccessful ... I do not feel safe in this car at all and I can't drive a faulty car for work I am responsible for the health and safety of the children I mind they aren't safe in a faulty car with braking systems failing ... We have requested to return this car for a full refund as we believe we have given Philip alot of chances to sort out the car and if anything it's getting worst the fault appeared within the first 30 days of owning this car so my law we are entitled to refund ... We have been passed between Stephen and Philip each one quoting the other one is responsible for sorting us out and refunding our money The car has been drove to Belfast on Monday 24 august and left with Stephen and we have requested the rejecting of this car we have done this throught the web site and through whatsapp ... Im not sure how long this will take but after dealing with this company for the last 7/8 weeks I know they will drag this out and not do the honourable thing and refund me my money . I have read other reviews and it seems I'm not alone on being sold a faulty car by them.. Honestly I would advise people to shop else where ..I've been in contact with other customers who have also had a nightmare ... Philip mc Garrity cars talk about 50 years in the car dealer business and offering first class service ..but that definitely is not the case..

Jacinta in response to A nightmare

Honestly despicable, I didn’t even get home in my “new” car and the car was rough idling, I have now fixed all the faults at a reputable local Mexhanic and he said the car couldn’t have been serviced in a very long time, yet Stephen assured me on purchase (7 months ago) the car had just been serviced and a new timing chain fitted. Honestly can only compare them To Harry Woowood, look out for the gorilla glue, he is been dealing dodgy motors for 50 yrs! Shifty boys! I didn’t even get a response from them when I notified them of the problems. Stay well clear!!! Only sorry I didn’t read these reviews before I handed over my cash.

Janette Kane in response to A nightmare

1st of Sept 2020 We have been informed car is fixed .. yet again ... We have asked for written confirmation of this yet no response ... So car is still in Belfast in their yard and I am car less in Derry If this car was indeed was fixed and he had confident in what he sells he would have no bother in standing over his cars

Belfast’s Harry Woodworm ... Bought a french lump of scrap from this con artist back in January 2020, didn’t get it 15 miles down the road until the faults began, not to mention the car has needed oil twice in the 7 months that I’ve been unlucky enough to own it, and now I’ve just been told the timing chain needs replaced and the engine needs work... I handed over £4200 for that heap and it hasn’t went right from the second I drove it off the fake forecourt, believe the reviews... absolute appalling excuse for a car dealership.

Janette Kane in response to Cowboys

How are they getting away with this constantly selling faulty cars

Jacinta in response to Cowboys

They should be reported to UsedCars NI they shouldn’t be allowed to advertise on these websites
