I purchased a 2003 Auto Chrysler Crossfire from them- They gave me an honest assessment over the phone and when I viewed the car they did not disappoint in their accurate assessment. Alastair and Steve were easy to deal with and I was happy with the transaction. I lived some 150 miles away, drove the vehicle back home and all went well for a few days until a total transmission failure – no drive or reverse. To cap it all the RAC arrived and informed me that this was the 6th call out in the last 12 months for precisely the same problem. I recovered the vehicle to a nearby gearbox specialist and contacted Swancars. I was concerned that they may fob me off or at best repair the gearbox which obviously does not work because the previous owner had the same problem, tried to fix it on 6 occasions which hadn’t worked so fobbed it off to “we buy any car”. It wasn’t Swancars fault as they purchased it in good faith but where did that leave me as RAC refused to confirm the previous callouts due to “data protection”. I did some research and found that this was a known (though not common) problem with the Mercedes SLK auto gearbox (which is what is fitted in the Crossfire). A batch of faulty radiators cracked the cooling pipe in the gearbox leaking fluid into the workings which kills the gearbox. Symptom is no “D” or “R” (rather than stuck in gear or going to “Limp Mode”). The gearbox AND radiator has to be changed with a new or recon/second hand one. I contacted Swancars and Alastair was great. He arranged for the vehicle to be recovered to Loughborough, as I said some 150 miles away, and left a courtesy car with me. They said they would look into it but I sent my research up to them and they spoke to their gearbox specialist who concurred with my findings. They seemed willing to refund me but liked the car and was happy to have it back with a replacement gearbox and radiator fitted. Swancars arranged this and sourced a second hand gearbox of similar age and mileage. However on advice of their specialist they fitted a brand new, fault free, radiator (rather than a recon one which could develop the same fault!). All this was done and the vehicle returned in just over one week. Very impressed with Swancars. All dealers will sell faulty cars. It is impossible not to as there are hidden faults on many vehicles. It is the measure of the customer back up that sorts out the good car dealers from the bad and Swancars certainly gave good customer service and I would recommend them to anyone.

I have now brought 12 cars from Swancar, i have used them since 2006 buying cars from £7995-£34995 every car was presented to the highest standard. Alistair and Gary are a pleasure to deal with, they are very professional in every aspect of their business i am sure we will deal with Swancar again in the future.
I bought a car from Swancar last year and all went well during the buying process. I found the owner of Swancar, Alastair, to be friendly and honest. We did have a minor disagreement regarding some faults that showed up a week or so after taking ownership of the vehicle and I was wrongly and quite rudely accused by Alastair of causing them and trying to cover it up, but he back tracked and apologised once he realised he was wrong, and we ended up as friendly as we started off. Anyway, having kept an eye on their stock over the months I saw a car that really interested me recently. I contacted Alastair and we had a friendly chat about the car. As with the last car I bought from them I was prepared to agree a deal, pay a deposit over the phone and buy the car upon seeing it, no time wasting. So I put forward the deal that I was looking for and he put forward the deal he could offer. We were not far apart financially so Alastair suggested he call me back in the morning as it was now late in the evening and it would also give him time to work out the best deal he could offer. He gave me his word and stressed that he would not sell the car to anyone else until he had phoned me back. I was fine with this as I was sure a deal could be done. The next day I didn't hear from him so I phoned back the day after. I was told by his colleague that Alastair would be out of the office "for half an hour", so I explained I was calling about the car and that he was supposed to call me back the day before. His colleague said he would definitely get him to call me back. Again, I didn't receive a call back. As I didn't think it was Alastair's style to dodge people, and he always seemed to express how honest etc they were, I assumed he had just forgotten to call or got caught up in something else. So once again, giving him the benefit of doubt, I called again the next day. Again I was told he was out of the office, this time for an hour, but was assured "100%" that he would definitely phone me back by close of business that day. Again I waited... No call back. So, three unreturned calls in as many days and it was obvious that he just didn't want to sell the car to me so I decided to give up and move on; but a friend of mine chose to enquire about the car a day or so later and it turned out a deposit had been taken on it that day... so some five days after I first spoke to Alastair and made an offer. Now I'm sure my money is as good as the next man's, and I'm pretty sure that the part-ex plus cash I offered would have overall still got them at least the asking price of the car they were selling, probably more.... so maybe his issue was with the car I was part-ex'ing as part of the deal. But this is the car I had bought from them 8 months prior, which at the point of sale they were singing its praises. And it is a sought after vehicle with only an extra 2000 miles on it. So maybe there's another reason I'm not aware of that they don't want my car back? This situation is disappointing to say the least.... Firstly because I really didn't expect this stereotypical dodgy car dealer behaviour from Swancar, especially as I felt I had a good relationship with them. If they wasn't interested in selling to me all it would've taken is a bit of common decency and a quick call to say "no deal", instead of leading me to believe a deal was in the pipeline, dodging my calls, promising callbacks and basically wasting my time. The second disappointment comes from the wild goose chase they led me on causing me to miss out on another car being sold by a different dealer that I didn't pursue because I preferred to deal with Swancar. I guess it's partly my fault for believing that Swancar was any different to all the other car dealers who are full of empty promises. My search continues for a genuinely honest and reliable car dealer who shows a bit of customer loyalty, and one who can appreciate that for them a car is just a commodity they buy/sell, but for a potential customer it's something far more important. Swancar have certainly lost my future custom and recommendation.
Swancar Of Loughborough were great when I was using them to buy my BMW back in March. I've got no complaints to share with anyone who may read this review. There was a slight mix up with the tax which got sorted in the end and everything and they've sorted any issues I had with the BMW.

I cant thank Alastair and the guys enough. I made a return to the garage having bought my previous 2 perfect cars from there. Unfortunately they did not have the vehicle i wanted when i looked online. I had been looking for my mercedes for 3 month and all but given up. I mentioned to the guys what i was after and they sourced me the car within days. The cars was like new (very much like the rest of their stock). I could have searched the country and not found another this nice, to top it off the car was under my budget. I now have the guys looking for a mini for my daughter and know without doubt we will be looked after again. Thank you again. I would recommend these guys to anyone. They are always willing to help with advise even if they dont have the vehicle your after. Marcus.
