I can see that this dealer has many good reviews. Looking at the less than good reviews, I see what I experienced at their garage today. I've had several very nice cars including a couple of nearly new Porsches and most recently an Audi TTS that I purchased as ex-demo from Audi and kept for five and a half years, only selling on very recently. I like nice cars. When their Silver MINI Clubman John Cooper Works came up for sale on Saturday evening on Autotrader, I quickly identified it as being the right specification, colour, age and mileage to be suitable for me. I called them on the Sunday and left a message declaring my interest. On the bank holiday Monday, I tried calling again and got thought to Carl. I expressed my serious interest in the car and agreed to travel to view it at 1100 on Tuesday, today. I'm certain my tenacity in chasing them for contact was demonstrative of my genuine interest. I arrived to find the car to be in exceptionally good condition with only minor alloy curbs (as declared in the telephone call). I did have a suspicion that the bonnet MAY have been painted (a paint dribble on the front OS bonnet edge, and there was damage to the rubber edge strip along the top edge that protects the bonnet edge from being inadvertently opened with the windscreen wipers raised. But it did not change my opinion of the car one iota. I loved it. The salesman, Dave, was very friendly and personable and took me inside to inspect the paperwork and discuss finance option. I had already done my homework regarding the finance, especially the PCP rates. Ok, time to drive the car. This is where it all fell over... It was made quite clear to me that I would effectively be agreeing to buy the car, subject to a satisfactory test drive. Now in 30 years of driving, and the purchase of 20 or so cars, I have never experienced this. I voiced my concerns at which point the manager, Carl, came from his office to join the discussion. From the moment he joined in he made me feel like a complete time waster just looking for a drive in his car. He told me stories of how people would come just to test drive a particular make or model of car before going off to drive something else, somewhere else for comparison. Perhaps he had a bad experience of some kind for him to adopt this attitude, but to cast aspersions on my intentions was wrong. I felt under scrutiny as to my intent. Almost like a job interview, bizarrely. He gave it big about how he sources his cars, not that it had any bearing on the matter, stating this was the only JCW with leather and panoramic roof currently for sale in the UK. I did correct him on this as Saxon 4x4 has a Thunder Grey one at a similar price for sale. He asked if I had driven it. I had already done due diligence on it and ruled it out due to higher mileage and fairly extensive scuffing and door edge chips. I even showed him pictures. I did not drive it. I told him that I had driven a standard Clubman Cooper S and was not satisfied with the performance, which was why I wanted the JCW. I don't lie and I don't pay lip service to placate others. And certainly not a used car salesman. I made it clear that I may come from the drive and agree to purchase immediately. I also said that I may come from the drive and wish to sleep on the decision. £30,000 is not a small purchase. I said I may come from the drive and decide the additional performance of the JCW was not worth the additional cost. Very unlikely. Cars, especially performance cars, are as much a heart decision as a head one. They’re emotive things. So, to re-cap, this garage expects that once a car is driven, the prospect is generally expected to agree a purchase. Oh, unless you don't like it. Eh? I called Carl out on this. I asked him "effectively you want to have your cake and eat it too?" He replied after some pause for thought, "yes I suppose I do". So I asked him exactly how he was able to police such a policy. After all, if I were a liar and one to placate with lip service, all I had to do was say "yup, I'll drive it and then agree to buy it immediately". As long as the wheel doesn't fall off perhaps… It's a bit like the heretic burning at the stake when, in the immortal words of Rowan Atkinson, all he had to do was say, "I repent my Catholicism". I think it’s called morals. I could have then driven the car, at a cost to them of perhaps £5 of petrol, the salesman's time (his raison d'être to be fair) and an additional 5 miles on the odometer, got out, said "don't like the colour", and walked away. Are they going to hold a gun to my head or take me around the back and duff me up? I think not. So what, exactly, is the point of their test drive policy if they cannot enforce it? All he succeeded in doing was alienating me to the point that I wouldn't give him my business even if the car was half the price. As I got up to leave he tried to shake my hand. How arrogant is that? It didn't happen. The really stupid thing is, that in the time Carl stood and argued the matter with me, I could have driven it and already agreed to buy. I had my heart set on that car and now I don't have it. That annoys me more than anything else. Absolute lunacy. Now, I am certain Carl shall be along in a timely fashion to give a very different account of events - I notice he only comments on the poor reviews... He's clearly a man who likes 'the final word' (a great cocktail you can enjoy at Hotel Martinez in Cannes if you're ever there - I own an apartment there... that I fly to regularly in my own aeroplane... n o t s h o r t o f m o n e y). I shall state for now that my version of events is 100% accurate and inclusive - I understand Libel law quite well and know how to tread. You may take or leave from my review what you wish. But in my opinion they are not a good garage to deal with, with far too much focus on judging their clientele. Carl, over to you...

I bought a 2018 Jaguar F Pace with just 5,700 miles from Westwell Jons in February. Due to Covid I haven't driven the car very much, however the break warning light came on at 7,500 miles. I took it to a local garage who confirmed the front pads and discs needed replaced. I called Carl who suggested that in the first instance I take it to my local Jaguar dealer to claim under warranty. This I did but was met with an appalling attitude, with them not even bothering to look at the vehicle. I called Carl back and he told me to get my local garage to replace the pads and discs and to get them to Invoice Westwell Jones for the work. Pads and discs now replaced with thanks to Carl at Westwell Jones
