May/June 2023. Bought a Range Rover Evoque from ‘your worst car’. It was faulty, oil leak , timing chain needs replacing and suspension snapped (all confirmed by a JLR dealership). I highlighted my concerns that it had an engine rattle after the first day of having it, got fobbed off with an AA warranty… not worth the paper it’s written on (a AA recommended mechanics words not mine). Therefore I took it to a dealership for service and diagnostics test. Timing chain failed. They also failed to send Vc5 to DVLA to register me as owner… but were very swift in taking ownership of my part xchange. No apology, zero accountability for selling a very broken car that requires circa £3-5k spent on it ( could need new engine due to timing chain damaging other components according to mechanic). I lost £1800 for returning a faulty car due to their ts &cs. Worst thing is just a few days later they have put the car back on the market . I appreciate that 1 in 100 cars might have issues, but they do not run checks on the cars they buy in to sell, and even when I have shared the findings of professionals, choose to ignore and sell on to another unsuspecting customer. I would steer clear of the black range Rover Evoque , Reg:EY67 GTF

Ashley Tedham from Your Best Car in response to A broken car, zero accountability

Dear James, I think it’s important to give some context and balance to your review as there’s always two sides to every story. First and foremost, we are genuinely sorry that your experience wasn’t a good one. As you say, `1 in 100 cars might have issues’ and we clearly haven’t got it right by you on this occasion. Throughout this, we have repeatedly apologised to you and offered to investigate the car ourselves either at our local Land Rover Main Agent (one we fully trust, not one that’s been tasked to find fault) or a garage local to yourself. Despite this, you seemed very keen to take it to a Landrover Main Dealer, and presumably paid them to essentially find ‘any faults’ with it. Unsurprisingly, they did find fault with a 52,000 mile 6 Year old car – all of which were ‘amber’ (future maintenance) warnings. Recommending a replacement latch on the boot when in their own words it “still operates as expected” and a potential alignment for example? Or an AC Service, NOT because it's NOT working, but simply because it's an older car? In fact, nothing on your Landrover Inspection gave a ‘Red – deal with now’ warning, otherwise the Landrover Main Agent would not have released the car back to you without carrying the work out. Another point to this is that one of our independent inspections prior to sale was with a Landrover Main Agent who had a software update on the car to do at the same time. When you returned your car to us, it did indeed have a snapped coil spring that, along with the timing chain, we have now replaced for resale. Both of these were ‘amber’ advisories on your own Landrover Main Agent report. Neither are that involved to remedy. Both are relatively common place for an older Range Rover Evoque to suffer from (or require maintenance wise). Our Independent Safety Checks, One Landrover Main Agent and One Independent Specialist, did not highlight any concerns on these items before sale. We’re certain the spring could have been failing before sale, and now has failed with your use (453 miles covered). However, it had categorically not failed at point of inspection, otherwise we would have paid Landrover to fix it. If we’d had the car back here to investigate, we would have replaced the road spring as goodwill, but sadly weren’t given the chance. I’m not sure what you expected us to do with the car if not repair and re-advertise. Once again, both jobs are par for the course with running this particular car, although we’re sorry that they afflicted your example and caused you distress. Just for clarity, the price is actually greater than when we sold the car to you, as it’s had one of the more complex maintenance tasks completed from your own Landrover report, and there was good interest for this lovely example when you purchased it. As all of our other glowing reviews suggest, we do not make a habit of getting it wrong, and go out of our way to look after our clients. In this instance, we wonder whether the fact you were running two fully electric cars has perhaps tainted your viewpoint of a diesel car - that is quite noisy ‘and more agricultural’ in nature – but remain aware that this is simply our biased conjecture perhaps. Either way, we wish you all the best with whatever you purchase.

Dealer refused to return my £500 Deposit I purchased a 2 Series M Sport BMW online 16th Jan 2022 for £16,997.00 from the Kent branch of Your Best Car, initially speaking to Jack and Ben there who assisted me with the sale. I opted for part finance (PCP) and part cash payment across 5 years. I was told I would need to pay £500 deposit to take the car off the website and they would prepare the car for me to collect in the next days. I collected the car and drove it back to London to test drive it. (They don't allow you to visit the site to test the car - you have to buy it online beforehand and agree to the sale) You of course have a 14 day cooling off period whereby if you are not happy with the car and simply change your mind you can return it and they will cancel the purchase. However when I decided I didnt want the car and it wasnt for me and changed my mind, this is when things took a turn for the worst. The car was returned after 4 days and within the cooling off and in perfect condition, cleaned polished and with the same amount of fuel in the tank as well. When I tried to get my deposit back which formed part of my cash advance (£6000) I was told I could not and that Your Best Car would be keeping not only my deposit but would be charging me £495 for the cancellation of my PCP finance agreement PLUS they wanted to charge me £255 for £2 per mile milage fees that I had clocked up whilst I had the car during that test driving period of 4 days. When I demanded the full amount back, they simply replied (and I quote) "£500 of your payment for your car was non-refundable on the basis that we stop other clients buying the car that you had agreed to buy. It also covers my Employee’s time raising your paperwork, dealing with you" All in all I have lost £1,250.00 when YBC kept this amount stating that I was told (by Andrew Woolger (Director of Your Best Car) "Essentially, we really do not want clients proceeding with a car if they’re not 100% certain they want it, as it’s a waste of their time and our own." Clearly they deem their interaction with the public as "time wasting." if you do not keep the car. When I checked online whether or not this was legal, I discovered that it was not, regardless of any T's & C's that I signed. Under current UK Law set out in [The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013] It is illegal to withhold any amount as consumers are protected under such regulation. This Act protects the consumer when purchasing goods and services online (distance selling) and covers their right to be entitled to a full refund of any goods and or services purchased in this way, regardless of any terms and conditions that they may have signed. Moreover, any Terms and Conditions presented by Your Best Car Ltd and signed by their customers, cannot supersede UK legal protections laid down in law. Please see the below links to the relevant Statutory Instruments that are relevant in this case: legislation.gov.uk - regulation 38 and legislation.gov.uk - regulation 34 I have tried to ask YBC for my money back but they have refused and have not even bothered to respond to any of my most recent emails or calls. This is totally unacceptable and unprofessional. I would advise very strongly that you think carefully before engaging with this dealership. I am proceeding with a legal claim now to try and recover the money that YBC have kept and not returned. 03/05/2022

David Gench in response to Dealer refused to return my deposit

Your feedback has prompted me not to pesue the blue C43 mercedes they have. Its all very well reading the good reviews but to read so many customers bad experiences really puts me off part exchanging my immaculate bmw g20 for one of their used cars.Shame as I really like the car they have but would be worried something major would go wrong with it.Your review has made up my mind not to buy from them.
