I purchased a 14 plate Skoda Octavia from Good Car Prices in Peterborough for £5450 earlier this year. The car had 110,000 miles on it and came with a 12 month MOT completed by the seller and a 3 month warranty on the engine and gearbox. The seller, Louqman Mohamad, assured me that there were no issues with the car. The advert stated that the cambelt and water pump had been replaced at 109,000 miles, with the paperwork showing the mileage when it was done. However, on the first day of driving the car, the wheel arch came off while I was driving at 60mph on a dual carriageway. I contacted the seller and returned the car for repairs. Two weeks later, the gearbox failed and the car was undrivable. I called the RAC, who identified a gearbox leak. The seller arranged for the car to be taken to a garage in Nechells Birmingham. I expressed my dissatisfaction to the seller and requested a full refund, but he refused and suggested taking the matter to court. Eventually, the seller informed me that the car had been fixed and was ready for pick up. When I collected the car, the garage manager had difficulty communicating in English, making it challenging to understand the work that had been done. I then took the car to Skoda Kings Heath for a full service with extended scope. During the service on July 18, 2023, Skoda identified a gearbox leak, a missing clamp on the battery, and an incorrect bolt on the gearbox mount. I assume the incorrect bolt was put on by the Nechells garage and they had not fixed the issue but just instead topped up the oil. Worryingly, a missing battery clamp is an MOT fail so how had Good Car Price managed to pass it prior to me purchasing the vehicle? Additionally, Skoda had no record of the car ever having its cambelt and water pump replaced, despite what the seller had told me. Ultimately, I decided to get rid of the car, losing £2,000 plus the cost of having Skoda examine the vehicle. I would not recommend Good Car Prices. It seems that the seller buys below average cars from auctions and sells them on. While he offers a warranty, my experience with getting the car fixed was not satisfactory, and once the 3-month warranty period is over, any issues become the buyer's responsibility.
