I think all the cars they sell are category s or n ie have been insurance right offs. I knew this when I put down a deposit on a Fiat 500c. I had an RAC check done on it, which said in a nutshell “Do not touch with a barge pole”. The repairs were extremely shoddy and makeshift and parts were still out of alignment from the impact of the crash. I would not buy a car from this garage. They did refund my deposit, though. A narrow escape with Car of Charminster.

This is the 8th review I've read and the 7th bad one. Glad I checked them out, I was about to waste what little money I have. I HATE car dealers who take the mickey like this. I'm a VERY ill person, I can't afford to be ripped by people like this.
We purchased a FIAT 500 from Cars of Charminster a week or so ago, I am going to start with the fact, we love our car and whilst its and N CAT seems to have been fixed to a good standard and the price was excellent consideration the mileage is low at 29k. When buying I asked if they could do a couple of touch ups and fixes I noticed, no problems for them, we nipped down the local turkish cafe and ready to pick up in 45 minutes. Now the follow up care.... but read all of this, we brought the case 60 miles from our house, when driving home we did noticed a fault with the car, the fan sounded a little loud, day 2 we got an engine failure. BUT.... We phoned Cars of Charminster and spoke to the lovely Tony who we had dealt with the day before. thats OK he said, ill be with you at 3.00 to pick up the recovery, there was no question. Couple of days later the cars is going great guns. Anyway, thank you Tony, you deserve a pay rise mate, great service, hopefully no more problems, but service has been great.
Was sold Peugeot by Cars of Charminster. Lasted two months until I found out there was a major oil leak and the garage put black silicon to temporarily seal it! So dangerous for me and my daughter. Have requested refund. Still waiting to hear...

Absolutley awful experience. I worked hard to save £5,000 for a vehicle and I bought a 1 series BMW from Cars of Charminster. As soon as I drove it away, the engine management light came on and on 3 separate occasions I booked it back it only to be told it wasn't fixed and I should rebook it back in. After the third unsuccessful attempt for them to fix it, I asked them to take the car to a specialised BMW center and for them to foot the bill or a full refund. A manager called me back and told me "I am not giving you a refund, if you don't like the car I sold you, take me to court" and hung up the phone. After having a lot of time and extreme hassle, I had to get my father involved (I am a young female) I eventually got a full refund. A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE - DO NO BUY A VEHICLE FROM CARS OF CHARMINSTER - SHELBORNE ROAD, BOURNEMOUTH!! You have been warned !!

Bought the car just after Christmas with a 10 month mot. not had a problem with it. Vehicle as described and running well.

The refund was given in full, the same day it was asked for. However, I am responding personally to this review. I am sorry we were unable to fix the BMW. I stayed on one evening after several test drives, just to leave it running to see if the engine management light came on. After a couple of hours I felt that it had been long enough that it would no longer be an issue, unfortunately the next day the light came back on. This bothered me a lot as I had become quite invested, spending some of my evenings researching into what could be causing the light to come on. Your family had bought two cars from us previously this year and I had met your father several times. Instead of coming in and speaking to us, he repeatedly phoned me up and made death threats. This to be honest was very upsetting. The matter had to be resolved through your partner – who I cannot fault, as unlike you and your father was very polite and civil. It makes me sad that the relationship between our garage and your family had to end this way, but please do not come back. Best Wishes, James

Yes the refund was given in full after such awful extemes we had to go to, to get the refund because the attitude of the employees and owners of this are garage AWFUL, when i first phoned the garage to ask for my money back i was hung up on hence having to get my father invovled because you had no intrest in trying to solve the issue just dealing with myself. There is no care for your customers all you are intrested in is the sale of the car then you no longer care! I dont think i have to say anymore, but i will make everyone aware how awful your garage is and i think these reviews speak for themselves because clearly i am not the only one who feels like the were RIPPED OFF!!
I bought a 2008 Vauxhall Zafira from Cars of Charminster and paid just £1600. It had a few minor scratches but nothing major. I have been using it for over a week and have had no issues. My only minor niggle is that the handbrake was a little high. This was sorted for me free of charge after mentioning it! Highly recommend if you are after a cheap car!

Bought a Vauxhall Astra from Cars of Charminster. They bought the car in an auction, and then put a dodgy MOT on it. Needed full new exhaust, clutch juddering, and now head gasket has gone. They also sold us a car that had been written off and was difficult to get insured. Can’t believe what absolute rogues this garage are.

Hi Louise, The Astra in question was sold 10 months ago in May 2018. When you came to look at the vehicle, you had brought a mechanic with you. He looked at the coolant and oil, tested the clutch pedal and listened to the exhaust. He deemed everything he checked fine. We cannot be responsible for the wear and tear items of a car we sold 10 months ago. As for the MOT, at the time of test we are very thorough as only one mistake on a sales car could lead to us losing our MOT license. I myself have a much higher failure rate than the national average, purely because I don't let anything go. 80% of our vehicles are previous insurance losses, this being stated on our adverts, HPI reports and invoices. Our customers have rarely had trouble insuring these, as we sell on average 5 a week. I'm sorry you felt you had to put this on here after so much time had passed, we wish you the best of luck with the car in the future. Regards, James
Bought a car from Cars of Charmister,did less than 100 miles,then head gasket went,only got one month warranty, garage not interested.say they can do it and work out a deal,my advice look somewhere else give a very wide birth,and save yourself the agro..

Dear Fred, We are sorry you had issues with the vehicle outside of the warranty period. However it is unfair to say we weren't interested in fixing the vehicle. On the phone I explained that we were booked up in our workshop for the current week and that weather permitting one of our mechanics could do the repair outside. In which you responded by saying you didn't care if he had to work in the rain. We will always try and help, even outside of warranty periods and have done for many years. However we can begin to lose interest once a customer shows lack of respect to our staff. We sell over 200 vehicles each year, many of whom bring their vehicles back for yearly servicing and MOT. Staff don't care. They take first non refundable deposit from you, than try to fix the wreck chosen by you earlier. If you're unhappy they won't give you refund. When wanted to speak with manager they keep saying he's on holiday. After purchase I found my bumper hanging on 2 screws, wind screen with the crack, leaking radiator, one key set. They gave my new MOT cert, don't think it would pass elsewhere. To late to return now. Strongly advise to avoid this place.

Hi Dave, I am sorry to hear about the bumper and radiator. If you had contacted us about these items then we would have been more than happy to have rectified them. I cannot authorise refunds on vehicles because of filled windscreen chips below 10mm as they are an MOT pass. You were also made aware of the 1 key set at vehicle purchase and we offered the services of a reputable locksmith who can code those particular keys for £40. In regards to our MOT standards. My personal failure rate is 15% over the national average and the one appeal we've had in the past 5 years was found in our favour. Again I am sorry you felt this way about the car you purchased from us, I hope you had no further problems with it. Regards, James
