I bought an MX5 From Mr James Emerson Barton. It was £2400 and seemed fine on the surface.
I took the car to a mechanic who checked it over and found that the rear sills had rotted away and as it was in a structural location it would be deemed a MOT failure.
I contacted James and initially he seemed interested and asked for photographic proof and so I sent the photos the mechanic sent me and that was pretty much the last time he seemed interested in helping me out.
I had many whatsapp message ignored, even though he had viewed them.
He would not pick up the phone when I called him.
I even sent letters and he told me I was wasting my time.
In the end I went down to his shop to see him and ended up getting most of my money back.
***The vehicle is a RED MAZDA MX5 RG04 EGJ.
It has many body work issues. Chassis legs are rotting. Front arches are rotting & have been sprayed over. Rear sills rotted away, Certain parts of the body work have been fiber glassed over***
James, you said to me "I hope you're not going to give me a nasty review" yet you relisted the MX5 instantly claiming it's "In excellent condition throughout! Stunning paintwork and lovely leather interior" so I guess you have repaired all the faults in a day? Very efficient.

Just to say, I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt in regards to leaving a negative review, thinking that maybe you would fix the car properly and be honest about the situation for the next potential buyer.

An enquiry about the car since David's poor experience indicates that the car will be ready for viewing at the end of the week after welding work has been completed.
How does this stand with advertising the car for sale now and in excellent condition?
Very much a case of buyer beware. A full AA/RAC safety inspection might be money well spent if considering buying the car.

You can't even get that right. You offered me £2k because I had used the car!! Even though I only did maybe 300 miles and 120 of them were driving it away from your shop to my house and then returning the car. In the end you gave me £2200, which isn't a full refund, I accepted it to avoid going to court and to get away from the situation.
So once again you're either lying or have no idea what actually happened, either way not a good way to fill people with confidence in your abilities as a dealer.

The MGB I purchased looked great, had no faults I was assured.
Broke down within 10 miles no response from mobile so called RAC. Taken back two my garage. Found wiring all a mess, brakes needed a complete overhaul rears ceased, inlet manifold sucking air. Some good bits had been put on car but by someone who hadn’t a clue.
My advice keep well clear of James and Croydon classics. A very dodgy dealer.

Bought a car from James Barton in 2010, Mgb roadster, car looked Great but on arrival at the dealership it was filthy. Multiple problems, when I got the car home, radiator leaking, rear bumper welded to rear valance on inspection no inner sills, car came with a full mot but was a death trap. stay away from this man no expert only in selling bad cars and bodges
