I bought a used car from Douglas Bell without viewing it. I live in Yorkshire and have recently had spinal surgery, which prevents me from driving at the moment. I rang Dougie for a chat about the car, and was impressed with his description. After reading some very negative reviews, I rang him again, and he sent me video recordings of the interior & exterior. It looked perfect. Dougie arranged a delivery for me; a cheaper price from all delivery companies I'd made enquiries with. He was so confident I'd love this car he made a written agreement to refund the whole of my money if I wasn't happy. The car has arrived today, 3 days after I first made contact. I am absolutely delighted with this 'mint' little car, and no I'm not a friend of Dougie s, nor has he asked me to write this. My honest experience of Douglas Bell Motors is 100% professional, courteous, helpful, honest and straight to the point. I would consider using his services again. Thank you for putting my mind at rest Dougie and for answering all my questions.

Mike (or someone) can you tell me if DBC cars at Tutbury are the same outfit as Douglas Bell Cars of Burton on Trent? Seems a coincidence if not, I’m considering a car currently at DBC but not based on these reviews here ! Confused …
Called about a Jaguar he had for sale, all nice a friendly on the phone, said it was in very good condition etc, what a joke, dents, scratches, service history all of a sudden he could not find, and the warranty offered was a joke, handler protect one of the worst on the market (google it), my advise, go to a real car dealer
I have waited to write this review so as to give the car time to develop any faults. I purchased the car on 4th April and had it delivered to my brothers house in North Wales as I live in Sweden. The whole transaction was smooth as could be and I was very happy with my contact with Doug. On receipt of the car my brother arranged a full AA inspection and as I was to drive to Sweden a oil change for engine and gearbox. I have since returned to Sweden and the car has not missed a beat . I am delighted with the purchase and have absolutely no hesitation in reccomending dB cars. I accept that not all second hand car purchases go as smooth as this one but can only talk for my experience. Nigel Conlan

Went to go and see one of his cars that he says was 'excellent' I don't think he know's what that word means, He buys the trade in no one wants from Hilton Garage, wipes a cloth over them quickly, and then puts up for sale. Car had dents, carpets were filthy, rubbish in the glove box, gearbox was not great. go to a proper car dealer and don't waste your time here.

Hi Lewis, This is the one who sells his cars on Ebay, stay well clear. https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/dbcderby2010?_trksid=p2047675.m3561.l2559

Your were probably one of the lucky ones
Went to look at a car that was described as 'excellent condition' what a joke, these are just old trade in cars that no one wants, AVOID! go elsewhere
Do not bother buying a car from this seller at all, the cars are rubbish, spent loads sorting out problems. He says he has 100% feedback on Ebay blah blah, if you look closer, the feedback is only gained by him buying items, not feedback on what he sells. STAY WELL AWAY

Traded a Volvo estate on a Discovery in December 21, have 2 fines for him failing to transfer the V5 registered keeper doc. Don't know if he has yet ( 13 months later) because he won't answer his phone or respond to text messages.
This man tells lies. I bought an 11 plate jaguar XF off Doug, taking a chance I bought it unseen as I had my previous car from a different dealer without issue. The fist lie was he told me the wheels had been refurbished when I asked for a video of the car especially the wheels and the bonnet as it looked like the bonnet had been painted in the pictures. I except an 11 year old car is probably going to have had paintwork repaired. He told me there was no need for the wheels as he had just had them refurbed and tge bonnet hadnt been resprayed. The car was delivered to Kent while I was away with work by a delivery driver. When I got to see the car for the first time in the metal it was apparent there was issues. Firstly one of the electric opening vents didn't work, secondly the windscreen washes didn't work and thridy the car had had a lot of paintwork touched up to quite a poor standard and the wheels hadnt been refurbishedbut had been poorly resprayed. I rang the next day to make Doug aware of these issues. I agreed to fix the vent as its a simple £20 fix, as as a former valeter knew I could bring most of the paintwork back to an exceptible standard. Doug's response to the washers not working was they must have been OK or it wouldn't have passed its MOT. The forth issue became apparent the first time I drove the car. The air conditioning didn't work. Something even if Doug didn't know about, his delivery driver would as it was delivered in the middle of an heatwave. Doug asked me to lie to the warrenty company Handler Direct, as they wouldn't cover the repair if they knew the car had this fault when it left him. As it turns out the warrenty wouldn't cover the full cost of the repair, their maximum is £350 the repair was £687, to which Doug said he would sort the warrenty and pay me back after I sent him a copy of the invoice. The fith issue became apparent when I collected the car from the garage. The car stank of sulphur and a suspected faulty catylitic converter was diagnosed. A replacement being £2700 from Jaguar for the part not including fitting. Not that his warrenty company will allow you to take your car to a main dealer. Doug told me to take the car back for a full refund including delivery costs and the cost of the air con repair, but he was going on holiday. The sixth issue happened on the day I went to look at a replacement vehicle for this car. Restricted performance warning came up on the dashboard, this could be related to the catylitic converter or it could be any number of other reasons. It was then I decided I'd had enough of working around Doug and that the car was going back that day and not the following week like we had agreed. So I nursed the car back to Doug in Tutbury. Upon arrival at his house a refund was issued but he claims that there was a security issue with his bank, meaning it hadn't gone into my bank. I had a train booked back to Kent and I think Doug used this knowing I couldn't wait around for the funds to show in my bank. The following day, Sunday I see the car had not only been readvertised for sale but sold to somebody called Lee in Telford. Staying in his advert the car had returned to stock as a part exchange, and this is before the refund had shown in my bank account and before Doug had recieved any documents for the car from myself and while the car was still registeredto me. This is after Doug assured me he wouldn't had sold the car if he had known there was faults with it. But has sold this car to Lee knowing and accepting there is at least potentially 1 expensive issue before at the very least having the car checked out by the jaguar specialist he uses (elite jaguar in Derby). So be very careful if you buy from DBC, DO NOT TAKE THIS MANS AT HIS WORD AS HE TELLS LIES,

I would just like to add to this review that douglas bell is not only a liar but likes to keep hold of peoples money as well. We had to fight him all the way to get our money back. It was excuse after excuse as to why the money had not gone into our account. Meanwhile he has not only advertised the car but sold it to lee in telford. A car that we still owned!!! And he advertised it for more money than we paid for it.probabley due to the fact we put a brand new set of 700 tyres and new wheel centres on the car that sadly had to go back with her. If lee reads this review.. think long and hard before you buy it. Its a bad car!!!

Don’t suppose it was a grey portfolio model - reg ending in XKY? Looks like it’s back for sale - I was going to view this evening but now I definitely won’t! Thank you for the review!!!
Andy in response to This man tells lies
Hi Brad, this is the very car. I would advise anybody going to look at this car to make sure you get to see all the invoices. He now has the invoices from when it was in my brief ownership minus the tyres (I think). But whoever does buy this car needs to make sure there is an invoice dated after September 3rd stating at the very least the car has been checked and found to be OK. But buy with caution and be prepared to walk away should you think something isn't right. I dont want my comments to become a witch hunt, but I would also add don't buy off Doug unseen. When we took the car back there was a Skoda there that was very poorly prepared and not something I wouldn't personally accept.
