My review of Keywise Cars of Rewe Exeter. My experiences of Keywise Cars all started in mid July 2015, when I had seen a Renault Scenic for sale online, I decided that I would go along to view as a normal non mechanically minded customer. 1st impressions was, wow look at all these cars, these guys are serious about selling? So, without further a do, upon arrival I got handed the keys for the Scenic and told roughly where on the sales pitch it was and to wander at my leisure. This I did, shortly followed by a quick test drive up the road and back. All seemed ok at this point, the vehicle was advertised with mot but having showed interest in it by making the 25 mile trip to Keywise cars, I was soon to learn that in fact it had hardly any valid mot remaining and therefore needed a new certificate! so I went away to think about it. Knowing we needed a car very quickly we decided to purchase an alternative car from another dealer in Devon, namely a Vauxhall Meriva. This car was purchased at an online auction for £820. Sadly although this was an OK car, it didn’t have the space or economy we desired. So, now that we had wheels we felt we would make a second return to Keywise Cars to show more interest in the Scenic, being that they still had the vehicle up for sale. I had previously discussed via telephone a near as damn it trade in deal and with this made another trip to them. Up on arrival salesman Adam wanted to run the meriva up the road so I agreed and off he went. Then he said lets see what wewantanycar.com value your meriva at. Keeping in mind he had made an allowance of £1000 for the Meriva, and the valuation from wewantanycar.com came back with £487! So he said hmm can I allow you this much!? Oh I am feeling generous so I will allow you £1000 so as you can see your getting a good deal!? When I said at the point of sale ok then lets value the scenic with these guys he replied nah not relevant this is a forecourt sale as in we have overheads to pay! So be very careful how they value yours and the used car your buying. So the additional £300 in cash was paid and a few days later I returned for a 3rd time, to collect the scenic but I will point out salesman Adam wanted to drive the meriva up the road again before finalising the deal. I would also point out that as a non mechanically minded person I could only discover a few issues prior to becoming the owner of the scenic on the 27th July. For the record they were quick to advertise the Meriva for over £2000! So what happened to the wewantanycar.com valuation? The very same day, having driven the scenic home, my wife discovered a pond in the spare wheel bay obviously rain water. Then I discovered the passenger side windows did not work, so obvious remedy check fuses to which I found a few blown 1s so replaced but still no effect on windows but, soon we noticed an airbag warning light! Not happy I rang Keywise cars within hours of driving the car away stating I was very unhappy with this and was told time and time car was sold without warranty got no come back. They did not want to reverse the deal at all! They also said that the excess water in the spare wheel bay was most likely left behind from the valet person? Michael the sales manager also pointed out that the car was fit for purpose because it starts and goes? So, I decided to contact the citizens advice bureaux helpline and was advised that I had rights under the sales of goods act 1979. So I initially chose to with guidance follow a protocol of signed for letters addressing the issues and that I was unhappy with the standard of service I received. My intentions were to recover my costs through a small claims court, but upon further advice from a local citizens advice office, they suggested I allowed them the opportunity to repair the car. So reluctantly I agreed to this having been reluctantly offered this from the seller. Many weeks had passed, and finally on the 8th August, we took the car to Keywise where we were refused a courtesy car so had to make our own arrangements! Several days had passed during the time they had our car at their premises and each time I rang they would not give me an approximate completion time for the repairs, keeping in mind that also at this point the clutch was showing signs of wear causing slipping and so they also agreed to fix this stressing that it is a Big job and would increase the repair time. I was also advised by Michael at Keywise that it was quite normal for bigger card when underload/going up hill, (with 2 adults and 2 small children) that the clutch may slip it happens all the time!? Finally on 14th August after a call to Keywise, Adam told me the car was now fixed and ready to be collected. So had to yet again make arrangements to visit Keywise again to collect the vehicle, when I met Adam once again, and he said did Michael mention anything about a 50/50 split on the repair bill!! I said no? Nothing of the sort was ever mentioned, and once again I pointed out that you were obliged to rectify this under the sales of goods act 1979, he wouldn’t acknowledge this and continued to say that Michael would contact me on his return to work if he thought we were expected to contribute, even though there was no mention of warranty with the vehicle and no mention of even an approximate cost of the work required! Several months on, and the passenger side windows Still do not work and this was meant to be fixed whilst they had the car back to fit a new clutch. In addition to this, the car now needs a new alternator so “Be wise” or not so wise whatever you choose to do don’t be fooled by the forecourt price that many people pay for the reassurance its been fine tooth combed, even the MOT is questionable as only days after owning the car we purchased, the wipers were noticeable noisy and on closer inspection worn out so maybe a quick change of blades to pass it? Still continue to check out the reviews for this company and cant help suspect that these are selfie reviews J If you decide to purchase from Keywise cars I would say tread very carefully, as aftercare is practically non existent!

Overall I was happy with the sale, Keywise could stand to be better organised as the paperwork side of things between themselves and the finance people took longer than it should have and there was a lot of blaming back and forth but it all came together in the end and I'm pleased with the car I purchased.

Keywise Cars should NEVER be trusted in my opinion. If you are considering buying a car from them check it out very thoroughly and take it for a very lengthy test drive. You should also consider the fact the warranty is not worth the paper it is written on. They also misinformed me of my rights telling me I was not entitled to a refund in order to get me to accept a repair (which was not successful) even though the fault was there before the car was sold.
