I put down a holding deposit on a car that was advertised as category C which I was happy with since it has been fixed. I asked Used Toyota Specialists if there was anything else wrong with the car, which they replied no, it is absolutely fine you can drive straight away. After reading quite literally a ton of bad reviews I felt the need to do a car check via Experian and soon found out that probably after a car crash the Vehicle ID number has been messed with which could have ended in impounding the car after I would have purchased it. I thought I need to get out. So I called them up to get my deposit back and soon the mood changed and the guy on the phone was yelling to me and I basically did not get my deposit. I called to Hounslow police and they advised me to go to the civil rights court if I want it back. So I will go there..

Dear reviewer, We have no recollection of any customer leaving a deposit and backing off. Firstly please give us the registration number for the car you intended to purchase. Secondly how can a vehicle id be tampered with without you seeing the car in person and checking against the v5. Thirdly autotrader automatically does its checks on experian before putting on the car which is at the bottom of each advert so can you please advise us where you got your additional information from. We have no record of dealing with you and its a shame you got the time to write up a false review like this. If you are a real reviewer and our car is as dodgy and not roadworthy we are more than happy to offer you a refund if you have left any money with us and also compensate you for the time and effort you have put in. I can understand if your a competitor and upset the fact we have cheaply priced cars and a review can stop potential buyers but anyone reading your review can clearly see its made up and it does not add up. Advert on Autotrader under the new name "Used Toyota Specialists". While this was a quick and easy sale (Honda Civic 2001 SE Auto, advertised £490), and the gentleman was pleasant enough, when I asked what the amber "EPS" light was (as I don't know) he said "its nothing". He was quick to drive the car as a demonstration for 2 minutes then hand over the one key with the words "You owe me £585", On making a bank transfer I asked for the bank account name, he gave a different name than that of the company. When asked how come he said he was "doing a friend a favour". When asked "So you're not a Trade seller?" he just laughed saying "you do what you can", but he still included the £95 admin fee that registered Trade Sellers forward on as regulation (rather than keep), and he then promptly left. When I then got in to drive the car, the power steering was inactive. I have since been advised by Honda that EPS and power steering issue could be up to £1000 to fix after diagnosis. When I called him to advise, he said I was lying and claimed never advertised the car as a Trade Seller, claimed the advertised price of the car was £585) despite the advert clearly saying "£490" so came up in Autotrader "under £500" with his "£95 trader admin fee", he got abusive and threatened to "come sort me out" as he had my address. He however did not show on the evening he said he would. I have however reported him to Autotrader, the police and Trading Standards via Consumer Helpline.
