In May this year I purchased a Mercedes E400 AMG Sport Plus from Phantom Motor Company . All was good until October when, on my birthday of all days, it suffered a catastrophic failure of the air conditioning compressor. With a seized compressor, melted idler pulleys and no auxiliary drive belt, it wasn’t going anywhere except on the back of an RAC recovery transporter. The next morning I had to arrange to have the vehicle taken into my trusted garage (an independent Mercedes specialist) for repair before heading up to York for the weekend in my wife’s old CLK to celebrate my birthday. Lots of drama before heading off, but at least I didn’t have it hanging over me all weekend and the garage could start work on the vehicle and get it back on the road. Verdict: the mechanic was shocked to see that the compressor had a gaping great hole in the side. Quite obviously, as this isn’t something you would reasonably expect from this marque of vehicle with just over 30k on the clock, I contacted Phantom to ask if they would cover the cost of repair (£800). Initially, having spoken to their aftersales manager, I was told “hard-luck but the vehicle is out of its 3-month warranty” – to which I replied that this was irrelevant as I was claiming under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Silence! They didn’t appear to know what my rights were and so were inadvertently denying me them. By chance I’m actually connected to Cole Hibbert, Phantom’s Managing Director, on LinkedIn and so contacted him directly to explain the situation. Whilst his initial stance was that the vehicle was out of warranty and that, as they hadn’t been given the opportunity to repair the vehicle themselves, it was unreasonable to just expect them to pay the bill, he did concede that it’s not what I should expect of the vehicle. Whilst this might not initially sound like a great response, this guy actually has great business sense and realises customer satisfaction is key to his future success and so offered to cover the full cost of the parts (based on a quotation of £514.48 obtained by them from Mercedes-Benz) if I covered the labour (as they wouldn’t have incurred these costs had they repaired the vehicle themselves). I’m sure that the hard-nosed amongst you would have insisted on full reimbursement but, as I’m old and wise enough to realise life is all about compromise, I agreed to take the £300 hit on the labour and VAT. The money was transferred to my account as promised and, because of this, and because I don’t believe Phantom could possibly have known about or be held directly responsible for what I believe to be a manufacturing fault, I would definitely purchase from them again – if only for the fact that I know Cole will do everything that he can to put things right and keep his customers happy. They also have some beautiful cars of course!

I sold my M4 for a fantastic looking Range Rover sport HSE. I was dealing with John who was absolutely amazing. I arrived very late so they put me up in a 5star hotel and I drove away with my new car the next morning. The whole team was superb and also kindly give my girl Friend a lovely bottle of wine too on purchase. Highly recommend Phantom Motor Company and will be keeping in touch.

Lewis and Gary both you guys Spontaneous Fantastic service and very professionally work as I’m highly recommend phantom motor Wigan, I bought my Audi Q7 in June but as i needs on urgently basis so few things not done and after three months when I again contact to Sales manager Mr. Gary and he sent all my car realted issues to service manager Lewis and he gave me quick responed and sent it all my car part within a weeks at my home address which one not hard to fix myself I’m greatful and thankful to all of you guys phantom team and specially Lewis service advisor who gave me all information with fast responses all the times.

Went to see a ford focus st for sale at Phantom Motor Company. Great car, absolutely fell in love with it. The sales person who i was talking to Mike was great, very friendly and very helpful. Front left headlight on the car was all scratched where someone scratched it on a wall or concrete post or something, i was told that this will be repaired before i collect the car, there was also a small funnell for the fuel tank missing but Mike promised me that he will get me a new one from Ford before i collect the car as well. When i came to collect the car the light was not done as apparently the guy who was supposed to do it was not in but i can come back in few days to have this done and there was no funnell for the fuel tank but i forgot to check. I kept on ringing mike every douple of days to have my light repaired but he kept on fobbing me off saying the guy is not in or that he needs to speak to the guy first and will ring me back, then he said its nothing to do with him and told me to ring someone else. Horrible experience, will never buy from them again and i hope no one else will. After you sign the papers for the car they dont care anymore about you.

Travelled over 5 hours and £75 fuel in total to an arranged appointment on Saturday to be told the car had just been sold! No contact previous to say needed deposit to hold it or any other correspondence to think anything other than the car would be there for us to view as we had every intention of buying it. If this is Phantom Motor Companys idea of customer service and communication I would stay well clear!

We do not take exclusive appointments from customers unless a fully refundable holding deposit is left prior to visiting us and this service is offered to every customer. Let me tell you about our experience with phantom Motor company, we were looking for a Range Rover Evoque saw that this dealer had one so went to have a look, car looked good, John took us out for a test drive all seemed ok, we agreed on this car still all seems fine...John said he would ring us next day with an update, he never rang so we rang him, we were constantly chasing him for a date to collect this car, as we have a private plate we decided to get things moving ourselves so got in touch with DVLA who asked for the Reg of this Evoque, they then asked what colour is this car, we were then told that this vehicle was not assigned to this car, they advised us not to pick the car up as it wasn't the correct plate to that car, we then put the reg into a car insurance quote and this came up as an error, the reg for this is't assigned to the vehicle, we tried on a number of occasions to get in touch with John to discuss this but he was always on another call? so i rang with a different name and yes finally got to speak to him, his answer was " i don't know why DVLA have told you this, but i will ring them and ring you back" again no call from John, So i rang him and emailed to tell him we were not going to pick up the car as we wouldn't be able to get insurance on a vehicle that wasn't registered to that plate, he said "just give me one more chance on this" i refused and demanded my deposit back, eventually after another phone call i got back my deposit, i see this car is back in the showroom for sale, good luck to who every fall for this like we did, Phantom motors have never rang or emailed me with any explanation as to why this problem happened. So i advise anyone buying from these to get the reg first and check it out!
